Resistance Through Gardening?
Discussion
I have always talked about having a greenhouse in retirement, but now that I am here, I want it to be much more than growing plants. In these frustrating times, I am drawn to community, caring for each other, and building the resilience needed to fight the theft of our democracy.
I looked up the war-time victory garden approach and quickly thought, “Nope.” Too much oppressive yuck in that. Then I checked out transformative gardening. Much better, but rather intensive and complicated to start. I thought, well, what about resilience gardens. But that’s already a thing and, while awesome, climate-resilient gardening is not the resilience of community I want.
This led me to resistance gardening and it feels closer to the Zen I seek. They grabbed my attention with the slogan, “transforming your yard into a vibrant sanctuary,” and what’s not to love about that?
What do you think of this idea? How do you think of your gardening?
